While some plant are rich in nutrients, vitamins, minerals and fibers and hold good medicinal and health-promoting properties, there are some plants around you which contain some deadly toxins which may be dangerous for your health and may even cause death.   1. Hemlock

Water hemlock also known as Circuta grows in the temperature regions of northern hemisphere. Hemlock belongs to the group of highly poisonous plants having small white or green colored flowers on them. It is called as circuta because it contains a highly poisonous content named circutoxin which may cause seizures. The poison has major content in the roots of the plant and is spread in all parts of the plant. The intake of this plant cause vomiting or abdominal pains as well.

  1. Castor Plant

Castor plants are widely found in eastern Africa and India and they are grown as an ornamental plant. The castor plant contains a toxin called richin which is concentrated highly in the seeds or beans but also present in all the parts of the plant. You may be surprised to know that the castor oil we use comes from this deadly plant. As the toxin content is mainly concentrated in the seeds of this plant, intake of a single raw seed may cause death of human in just two days.

  1. Doll’s Eye

Another name for Doll’s eye is White Baneberry. It is usually found in the eastern and northern parts of North America. The plant is given the name as doll’s eye because eyes like flower comes out from the fruits of the plant which is a white berry with a black scar on it. The toxic material of this plant resides in its berry. The berries have a sweet taste and thus attract children causing them to death.

Angel’s Trumpet can also be termed as Brugmansia. This plant has long flowers measuring up to 50cm long and 35cm wide. The flowers are trumpet shaped and hanging down the branches. These plants are found in the tropical region of South Africa. The flowers of these plants vary in size as well as color. This plant contains toxins such as tropane, alkaloids, scopolamine and atropine. The whole plant is toxic.

The suicide tree also known as Cerbera odollam belongs to the family of oleander. Oleander is also one of the deadliest plants. The plant contains toxin named as cerberin. The intake of this toxin results in irregular heart beat by disrupting calcium ion channel in heart muscles. Some people refer this plant as perfect murdering weapon because it can be mixed up with food and its taste can be disguised.

Eating Rhubarb plant can or cannot be harmful depending on what part of plant you eat. The stem of this plant can be edible and many people enjoy eating the stem in desserts like Rhubarb pie but eating leaves of the Rhubarb plant can be dangerous for you. Intake of leaves make cause difficulty in breathing, burning of mouth and throat.
