Employee turnover is one of the few causes of concerns when it comes to a company. No company stands in favour of higher employee turnover rate unless and until there is a severe case of a recession.

However, even though there could be the handful of reasons that can lead good employees to quit, one key reason remains to be managers. Being a leader and a manager, persons sitting at this position are supposed to handle their team efficiently and encourage them, however, prevalent times this never remains the case. So what are the things that managers do that lead to good employees quit the company?



The corporate world functions with pressure, however, being a manager, the job has depressurized the team and add productivity to work. Some managers overdo their positions and end up pressurising them to meet the deadlines surpassing the fact that even they are humans who need to sleep and most importantly breathe.

Lack of Motivation

When deadlines are supposed to be met, and patience seems to be cracking down, a manager should ideally be the rescuer. Keeping the team on his or her toes and motivating him or her monetarily or none monetarily is something that is not possessed by every manager in the corporate sector.

Order and Command

Being at a higher level of the hierarchy, a manager is bound to take orders from his seniors and pass it on to his team of employees. However, things turn distasteful when the manager himself herself does nothing but only commands. This brings a lack of motivation in employees, and they feel cheated as well. A good manager is always updated with his own responsibilities and sees to it that the work is completed and the job is justified on his part as well.

Favouritism or partiality towards one or a bunch of employees is commonly seen in the corporate companies these days. When employees visibly witness their work is not as recognised as the work done by their counterparts are, given that they have put the same level of efforts and time leads to disappointment and demoralisation. This should never be the case, especially on a manager’s part.


Criticism is significant because with critical feedbacks you tend to grow. However, some managers retain an awful habit of criticising for the sake of it. They would either find faults or construct one, but they will see to it that there is always room to criticise. While constructive criticism is always welcomed, certainly a criticism merely for the sake of it is not. Moreover, any feedback is taken positively if t is given positively. Some managers are excessively harsh with their words.

Not every employee would nod to everything that is ordered; some employees possess an h2 sense of respect and principles when the question comes to their ethics. Seeing their managers indulging in unfair practices can also be resentful which would later on or eventually lead to employee turnover.

Promoting the Undeserving

Employees may even feel that the manager is unfair towards them if they figured out that an undeserving person is being promoted. A manager should be extensively critical when it comes to promoting people at a higher level of the organisation. If at all he or she feels that his or her decision is justified then a proper communication should be incorporated to clear the clouds of doubt.

Dearth of People’s Skills

It is true that corporate or professional world has to be formal yet, people’s skills are significantly important. A manager who faces the dearth of people’s skills certainly leads to a greater employee’s turnover. Simple gestures such as using a good language, being persuasive and not aggressive definitely counts when you work in a team as a manager.

No challenges

We all wish to leave our comfort zones and grow. Challenges are one of the ways through which employees seek for growth, however; not having a job that is challenging enough can definitely lead to resentment amongst the employees. When a manager throws no positive challenge towards the employee, their job gets monotonous, and perhaps they look out at a better opportunity wherein they can face some challenges.

Disorganised works

More often than not, a manager is seen as the role model by his team. He is responsible for directing them accordingly and see to it that work happens to be with efficacy. However, if the manager himself if disorganised, it can highly lead to chaos, confusion and wastage of resources. When a manager should ideally be responsible for ensuring that the flow of work is smooth, a disorganised attitude can surely lead to dismay among employees.


Irresponsible attitude is certainly a major turn off for the employees. While they are expected to be completely responsible, the same is expected from the managers. An irresponsible attitude can definitely cause agitation among the employees. Irresponsibility is never welcomed especially in an organisation at a managerial position.

The job of a manager is not as easier as it seems because it has to deal with the world’s most complex machine and that is human. A good a manager will always treat his teammates with respect and honour. He or she will see to it that the decisions are never enforced, the practices are always fair and justified, and the work is always divided according to skills. He or she would never run from the responsibilities and would see to it that his team is focused and contented.
